The Silence is Sacred

I saw an exchange of emails back in October or November of 2012 regarding jet boats on the lower John Day – that was crazy to hear about. I did not find any boats on the two trips I took there but that would be a horrible experience! The silence is something I seek when I go to the JD. There are times when it can be completely and utterly silent out there. The river flows by silently. You can hear the bugs crawling in the grass, the small birds flitting around eating the bugs and you can hear a raven cry when it glides along the canyon walls a mile away. I love those moments. Even though the rules allow this use, some things should just not be done – this is one of them.
